Sea Bangor Festival Success!

Posted: 3/6/2019

Over 45,000 people visited the popular Sea Bangor Festival over the weekend Saturday (1) and Sunday (2) June 2019. The town was buzzing with a host of maritime themed entertainment and activities for all the family!

Organised by Ards and North Down Borough Council with support from Bangor Chamber of Commerce, South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Bangor Marina and Translink, this year’s festival was bigger and better than ever in what was one of Bangor’s busiest weekends of the year.

Visitors from the Borough and beyond descended on the seaside town over the course of the two days to see lots of entertainment including water and aerial displays.

The AeroSuperBatics Wing walking team of highflyers were among some of the main attractions, performing incredible feats in the sky in what was a spectacular aerial display above Bangor.

A bit closer to earth, Daniel Doyle created stunning sculptures made from sand near the entrance to the Long Hole while the Eisenhower Pier hosted ‘The Phoenix of the Dell’ tall ship which was open for the public to climb onboard throughout the weekend. The popular Sea Bangor Rowing Challenge featuring local community teams competing for the prestigious Sea Bangor Cup also took place in the waters along the Eisenhower Pier.

Keeping to the maritime theme, visitors to the event were invited to take part in one of the Royal Yachting Association’s sailing experiences on the Saturday while on Sunday they could try their hand at kayaking. Boat tours were on offer too, allowing you to explore Bangor’s coastline from the sea.

Those keen to keep their feet firmly on dry land could visit the Army Reserve Village in the Marina car park or head to the Tented Village in Quay Street car park. The Tiddler’s Tent Silent Disco was a hit with all ages while the ‘Under the Sea’ creative experience marquee was sure to inspire and engage.

The Sea Bangor Café had a variety of food on offer with a focus on local business and local produce. Plus, there were cookery demonstrations and competitions hosted by SERC, including ‘Bangor’s Best Balti’.

Thanks, must go to all our partners who made this event a fun and enjoyable experience for all.
